How to find your high school yearbook or annual

I started searching for my high school yearbook many years ago. Growing up in a medium size California town that is now very large, I assumed finding a copy would be fairly easy. I set out looking on various web sites but to no avail. I got pretty close at times but never my year. Being an antique dealer for many years I decided to start picking up yearbooks that were in very good condition and storing them in file boxes on a wall in my office. My work as an antique dealer over the past years has given me many opportunities to buy yearbooks. My days are spent going through antique malls looking for things to buy for resale. On the weekends I visit flea markets, estate sales and garage sales. I was surprised at the books I had rescued over the years. but I never came across my own. Most of the books are in wonderful condition and very well intact. My yearbooks and annuals range from the 1930's all the way up into the 2000's. I have many local books, many CA books, but what is surprising is I have books from every state in the USA. Many are from cities and towns I have never heard of. I guess people really do move around allot.

One of the amazing things in reading all the well wishes in the autograph section is how society has changed. The older books seem to just say things like "good luck in college" And more fun and wholesome remarks. While the newer books sometimes use foul language and make reference to using drugs or being a whore.

Some schools offer their yearbooks online now. Most are partial and incomplete though, and there is just no replacing having the real deal.

I have decided to write down a guide if you will, for people looking to locate their high school yearbook. Maybe save you some time in searching. And of course to plug my website too. http://yearbookusa.net/ But I really have grown to love these old and sometimes elusive books, and the American traditions they represent.

Part of the reason i decided to create my website was to help people to find their yearbooks. And of course maybe make a little money. I cant tell you how many times I have gotten an email from people saying they have searched for a specific yearbook for years and were so happy to have found I had it for sale. While in truth I had the yearbook they were looking for up for sale for sometime. I have added a few pointers from my website below that I think are important when searching online. I did find my yearbook one Sunday afternoon about 1 year ago. My searching would have been in vain had I not noticed another yearbook listed from the state of Calif. Not CA or California. I had not seen our state abbreviated in this manner since I was a boy. The seller in fact just ran out of room in his ad title. But I tried this old form of our state abbreviation and found my high school yearbook. There was one for sale in Grand Rapids MI of all places. Any way here are some notes that my help you out.

Finding a vintage yearbook can be a real challenge. People who sell yearbooks list them in different ways. For instance some people list the yearbook or annual name first - The Echo George Smith High School Yearbook 1943 Fort Smith TX. You can imagine the variables this ad could be written in. For instance, Texas instead of TX. The title of the book Echo may not be used at all. The date 1943 may be written as '43. The best way to search for the above yearbook would be to start simple, for instance, Fort Smith Yearbook. All the yearbooks from Fort Smith should come up that are listed. If there are too many to go, through add the year. Fort Smith Yearbook 1943. Basically, the less words you use in your search title, the less likely you are to exclude the book you are searching for.

Some school names seem to evolve over the years also. Edison Joint Union High School may now be called Edison High School. Townsend Area School may now be called Townsend High School.

When searching our inventory the city alone should be enough to find the book if we have it listed.

Antique malls and stores often offer yearbooks for sale. They may also be able to assist you in locating a Yearbook from a local dealer. I am an antique dealer and known in my area for having good quality yearbooks for sale, we get calls from antique dealers in our area assisting people looking for a yearbook from time to time.

I hope this helps at least a little in your quest for your High school Yearbook or College Annual. And please stop by my website and take a look at my yearbooks for sale. I might just have the one your searching for.
